Tofu Cute | The Kawaii Shop

When I discovered a kawaii gift shop just seconds away from my house, I must admit I did a little happy dance. Unless you live in London, it’s rare to find kawaii shops this side of Japan so I was ecstatic when I found Tofu Cute.

My heart lit up as soon as I saw the bright, pink exterior and the adorable plushie picnic-scene in the window. The inside was bursting with even more Japanese cuteness from drinks to stationery, to clothing and toys.

Every wall was candied pink, Japanese TV shows were playing in the background and the sales assistant was wearing the most adorable outfit. It was as if I had been transported into a different universe that was a world away from the shabby streets of Fratton, Portsmouth.

The shelves on the right were filled with lots of Japanese candy, snacks and cookies including, Hello Panda biscuits, matcha tea flavoured Kit Kats and every flavour of Pocky you could imagine.
On the left hung cutesy key rings, mini plushies and an array of puffy stickers. The middle of the store was home to stands of alpaca plushies and endless edamame. Hanging from the ceilings were kitsch, faux crystal, pink chandeliers with giant plushies sitting atop the shelves. In fact there were plushies sprinkled throughout the store, from the windows right the way through to the back of the shop. I don’t know which one was my favourite but I can safely tell you I wanted them all.
The very back of the shop (and probably my favourite part) boasted the prettiest collection of kawaii hair accessories that I have ever seen, whilst the neighbouring shelves played host to Sailor Moon and Sanrio memorabilia. With Sailor Moon, Hello Kitty, lilac hair accessories, giant plushies and panda shaped cookies all under one roof, I think I might have found the greatest place on earth (minus Disneyland, of course).
If you are ever in Portsmouth and you love all things kawaii be sure to pop by Tofu Cute. Fear not if you don’t live in Portsmouth as Tofu Cute regularly have pop up stores in local ComicCons and have an amazing online store which you can visit HERE.

    1. Ah that sucks! We have a couple of Asian food stores here too that tend to sell Momiji dolls and little things but it's nice having a proper toy store.
